TP: Over or Under?
52
Decisions, decisions
Quite frankly, at MY house, I am just happy when it gets on the spindle. Over, under, sideways ... I don't care, let's just keep it off the floor, window sill or back of the toilet.
From what I can tell from my meager experience of living on this planet for 57 years, one needs two X chromosomes to put it there. This may not be a universal truth, but it certainly is my truth.
And really, there are benefits to hanging the toilet paper either way.
Over is far too conducive to massive drifts of paper filling the powder room. It seems to be a magnet for toddlers and cats. At least when the toddlers get it, it's not shredded into tiny bits as well. It's just stuffed down the toilet, sometimes causing personal contributions to the economy in the form of paying the plumber.
On the other hand, Over looks better. Most hotels I've been in not only hang it over, they also fold the end into a nice little point. What the purpose is, I don't know. I'm not so fussy that I need Toilet Paper Origami. I just need it off the floor.
I believe Under conserves toilet paper usage, particularly if the roll is slightly squished, so that it doesn't come off the roll quite as easily. In these days of Green everything, it might be something to consider, as I suspect it takes vast quantities of trees, electric powered machinery and gasoline powered distribution to get toilet paper to where it needs to go.
I have read that the average American consumes 57 sheets of toilet paper daily.
But more importantly than Over or Under, I think the really important question hasn't even been addressed. Scrunched or folded?
Of course, both questions could be rendered moot through the use of a bidet.

definitely under. over is for the left-handed. of course i made that up! :D
Hey, Cris, watch yourself, dude! I'm a lefty and I'm DEFINITELY an under-rolling gal. Not sure what 'folded" vs. "scrunched" means (?). Does this refer to the condition the paper is in once in the toilet?
I do agree that replacing TP on the roll seems to be the province of the female of the household. I buy it. I stock the extra rolls in the drawer in the bathroom. I cannot even tell you the number of times I've come in and sat down in a hurry only to discover to my horror that "someone" (hint: XY chromosomal being) has left only 2-4 squares on the roll. Arrrggghhhh.
MM
Oops, sorry MM. I was trying to sound scientific and totally made that theory up. :D
I once studied over/under for several months, and a roll definitely lasts longer OVER. (Not to mention the maid can't put make cute point on the end if it's under!)
MM - folded or scrunched means how you wipe. Do you fold neatly before you wipe or do you scrunch it up?
For the 18 years I lived at home, my mother always had the toilet roll under. But once I got married, I was converted to over. I much prefer over. But, I too, am just happy most of the time that someone other than me has actually managed to put it on the spindle. Why am I the only one that can do that? As far as scrunch or fold......who the heck folds??? LOL Scrunch it! Actually a friend and I had that discussion and her fear was that she would 'get some on her' if she scrunched. Never, EVER, have I 'got some on me'.
On a semi-related subject......we ended up in a discussion at work one day about how many paper towels you yank to dry your hands from those automatic towel dispensers. I had always taken two. But I learned that everyone else seemed to be taking four or more! I was shocked. So, now I take 3.
I just don't understand the whole bidet thing. So, let me try to understand this. You 'flush' so that a stream of water is projected at your supposedly soiled body parts and this stream is supposed to leave you sparkling fresh and clean? All external fecal matter will be whisked away by this jet of water? But would it not also leave you WET? Then what? You just get up with a wet bottom?
I fold very neatly. I find that if I scrunch, there is always a chance of slippage or tear; allowing a chance of the stink-finger.
lol. I always put it in under. I am checking out that tolet paper oragami book you posted from amazon... lol... its one of those... why didnt I think of writing that book moments!
Oh I love it, what an interesting article, I voted here is my answer just for fun... Over under seems to complicated in our house and you always have someone asking where the beginning is. Folded..... Our son is a scruncher and it seems that our toilets have operation over flow when this goes on, so I hope eventually we will understand folded. lololololo :)
Now thats some deep shit Ktoo!!!! I love fun thought provoking hubs
Always under, if it goes over the cat has too much fun and I have shredded toilet paper all over the bathroom!
LOL; very funny, tongue in cheek hub. Thanks I enjoyed it.

I never thought about the under method in terms of conservation but I still think over is the only way.
