Why I Love My PT Cruiser

Don't you call my baby ugly!

Okay, okay, maybe it is the fugliest car in the universe. To some. But to me, it's my baby. It's my toy. It's my pride and joy. I wash it and polish it and keep it clean and talk to it and treat it well and it treats me well.

If it's fugly, it's fugly adorable.  Like Ringo Starr when he was a Beatle.  Or a Furbie.

I.... love.... this..... car.

Here's why.

Reason 1: It's a convertible!

I don't care if you roll in a tin can, if it's a CONVERTIBLE tin can, it's cool.

I love the feel of the air in my hair. I have my hair especially cut to look windblown at all times. Because nine months out of the year, it IS windblown at all times.

I love the looks I get when I'm riding around town (now, they may be saying, that is one old broad in one fugly convertible, but I don't care, they're still looking, aren't they?)

I love getting my vitamin D the sunshine way.

I love cranking up the stereo and cruising down the road to the strains of Led Zep. Or Willie Nelson. Or Azam Ali. I have eclectic tastes in music.

I don't even care if I get stuck in traffic. I'm outside. I have tunes. I could sit here for HOURS!

I love my convertible.

Reason 2: It's RED.

And it's not just any red.

It's Inferno Red Crystal Pearl.

That's some red, baby.

Inferno says it all.

When every other car on the road is blah silver (I call them road colored), or black, or beige .... a red car stands out.

A red car has personality.

A red car says YEAH, I have attitude and I don't CARE who knows it!

I love my red car.

so it looks like it has a fat rear. I have one too.
so it looks like it has a fat rear. I have one too.

Reason 3: It's 2.4 Liter Turbo

I had no idea what that was.

When I bought it, my man looked at it and said "Oh. I didn't realize it was turbo".

And I said "What does that mean to me?"

And he said "that means you keep your foot off the gas pedal".

HAH! I quickly discovered what turbo meant for me.

Every other non-turbo car I've had drove like a 4 wheeled BRICK in comparison.

When I'm first at a traffic light, I'm a mile down the road before anybody else gets off the dime.

The only thing is .... I have to remember to be a bit careful on really wet roads, unless I want the rear slinging all over the road.

I love my 2.4 liter turbo.

Reason 4: I like the interior

I like my Inferno Red Crystal Pearl dashboard accents.

I like my retro analog clock.

I like my ALL UP button for the side windows.

I like my tach.

I like my mp3 player outlet.

I like that it tells me what direction I'm going in.

And what radio station is on.

And other handy things to know while travelling around in your Inferno Red Crystal Pearl Convertible.

And the seats are very comfortable. Especially when you're a middle aged lady. I tried a Solara and a I tried a Sebring, and they were pretty cool, but they sure weren't as comfortable!

I like the fact that I can fit 4 fullsized adults comfortably in my car, top up or top down.

I love the interior of my PT Cruiser.

Fifth and final reason: It was cheap!

I spent my whole life driving practical, nothing-colored cars. Mostly Toyotas. And I ran them until the engine fell out (usually 11 to 12 years).

When I hit my middle fifties, I said it was now or never. If you want a convertible, you better go get one.

So I priced a Solara. Ya know, for somebody who holds a Corolla for 12 years, that was just too pricey for me.

And I priced a Sebring. And that was fine, and I test drove it, but it was fine, but it just did not have the take-me-home-I'm-a-cute-lost-puppy factor the PT Cruiser did.

I bought my 2006 Model Year PT Cruiser new in 2007, at CarMax. It was brand new, had five miles on it, but boy, they sure wanted it off the lot. That was reflected in the no-haggle price.

So it came home with me. And we've been very happy ever since :)

Since Chrysler stopped making them (and really, who knows if Chrysler will survive at all), I have decided that if the engine falls out ..... I'll go have a new engine put it in.

That's how much I love this car.

Some PT Cruiser Fun

Actually, there's one more reason....

PT Cruiser owners are fun.

And they have a sense of humor.

The PT Cruiser ... sort of like the Mac of the automotive world.  Everything else is a PC.

I go to this convention! It's a riot!

Go ahead, leave a comment. But don't you call my baby ugly.

LOL no doubt you love your puppy! One can see it through every word. :)

I too love my cars. Don't think yours is ugly though, I like the retro style - but I know there are people who feel really strong about it, including my wife :)

I wouldn´t say it is ugly... perhaps we can call it a sinful car LOL. I never cared much about how they look, for me what makes a great car are the feelings and sensations it gives me: speed, safety, handling, acceleration, but also reliability and confort.

One thing is for sure: You love your car and it shows all over this hub. Congratulations on your evil machine ;)

I love PT Cruisers and think they are crazy to have stopped making them, they are adorable! How is it on gas? I think it has a steel body? Actually, I'd feel pretty safe in a steel body.

Dolores, it totally sucks on gas. I went from getting 35-40 mpg in a Corolla to around 20 in the Cruiser. You get a lot of wind drag with the top down. BUT it is heavy, and it also sits up high, it's about the same size and weight as a crossover SUV. In fact the fueleconomy.gov site rates it as SUV class. Well I don't care, I still love my baby, even if it has a fat rear and eats a lot.

I LOVE my PT Cruiser, too!!! Mine is a 2008, I bought it in October and I am OBSESSED with it!!! Mine is black (not a convertible) and looks like a classic gangster cat. My teenage son says it's "Beastly" and my boss calls it my "Chariot".

I LOVE it so very much...the first thing I did when I brought it home from the dealership was put my Depeche Mode bumper sticker on the back. It looks so "F'ing" cool...I love everything about it.
